THE NORTH SHORE


The North Shore (of Burrard Inlet) is a term commonly used to refer to several areas adjacent to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada: the City and District of West Vancouver and the City and District of North Vancouver. Vancouver’s North Shore is the place to stay to discover Vancouver from a whole different perspective. Staying mountainside you are minutes away from some of Vancouver’s premier attractions. Outdoor adventures abound with world-class mountain biking trails, rainforest hiking trails and more. It is renowned for its proximity to nature, varied outdoor recreation opportunities as well as historically significant west coast modernist architecture.

NORTH VANCOUVER


North Vancouver is a rugged and beautiful area to live in – not to mention affluent. Ranked in 2016 as the second wealthiest place in Canada, the area is home to a unique compression of commercial, residential and natural forays. Bound by the Capilano River to the west and the Burrard Inlet to the south, Vancouver North sprawls in an awakening fashion across the landscape. Here you’ll find the centre of Hollywood North and many businesses centred primarily around technological products. Living conditions could best be described as middle and upper-middle class, with most of the municipality being suburban. There are a range of living abode sizing options available from smaller family bungalows right through to massive luxury homes built by the wealthy. Overall an area of class, North Vancouver allows for an active outdoor lifestyle mixed with the convenience of first world technological growth. If you want to live near both the ocean and a river, then North Vancouver could be your spot. It boasts some of Canada’s finest sights and excellent job prospects in the technological sector.

SHOPPING & RESTAURANTS


North Vancouver is as well prepared to feed and entertain its residents as any area containing city land. On Lonsdale Avenue and Marine Drive, you’d find a range of options to satisfy even the fussiest eaters. Living in North Vancouver is easy with many food delivery places and excellent in-house dining around almost every corner in denser areas. Whether you’re craving ethnic delicacies or a taste of home, North Vancouver has it all! The area also caters well to those with an appetite for shopping. Apart from the standard shops and malls to be expected, there are also delightful farmers’ markets to attend. Pick from handmade items there or go along to one of the shipyards night markets. It’s all about supporting local businesses and enjoying your shopping trip a little differently.

COMMUNITY


The Vancouver North community is active and constantly progressing. It is well connected to the wider Vancouver area by public bus services and has its own internal route services to connect residents to all the area has to offer. Known for its gorgeous outdoor activity areas, Vancouver North is a refreshing and revitalising place to live.

Grouse Mountain

An exciting ski field destination for locals and tourists alike. You can get there via a gondola lift chair ride or by embarking on the famous Grouse Grind hike.

Northlands Golf Course

Going out for a day of golf is a popular pastime in Vancouver North. The Northlands Golf Course is a publicly owned course and is operated for the enjoyment of its citizens by the District of North Vancouver.

Capilano Suspension Bridge

A suspension bridge located in one of Vancouver North’s private parks, the Capilano Suspension Bridge takes users across the Capilano River and on to beautiful rainforest trails.

EDUCATION


Vancouver North is an ideal place to raise a family. It tops off it’s beautiful natural surroundings and convenient city life with an excellent schooling system. Parents are spoiled for choice in this area with both regular public schools and private schools available. Bodwell High School is a co-ed international school located near the waterfront in North Vancouver and is a steady choice for a boarding school. Brockton school is also co-ed and provides tuition for students from junior kindergarten all the way through to grade 12. There will be a school to suit any child located in or near North Vancouver. You could rest assured that your children will receive the best of care in this upper-class area.

WEST VANCOUVER


West Vancouver is a large, relaxed area of Vancouver. It is a beautiful place that hosts gorgeous leisure activity sites and caters well to both the retired population and those still working. Most citizens take a short trip into downtown Vancouver for work, retreating to the beauty of West Vancouver at the end of their day. The area is well known for Cypress Provincial Park which was the venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics and its generous allotment of outdoor hiking trails and community festivals/events. In a sense the whole region could best be described as idyllic. Many residents of West Vancouver are either retired or work from home. Without dense packing of commercial building there is plenty of room in the area for comfortable homes. Prices are reasonable for a region that is both safe, friendly, convenient and stunningly beautiful. If you like having a minimal commute time to work while still enjoying a beautifully quiet home environment, then West Vancouver may be for you.

SHOPPING & RESTAURANTS


West Vancouver is a quieter area and most people will head into nearby downtown Vancouver for a big night or day out. The area does have everything you could need for everyday activities though with a 25-block strip of Marine Drive serving as the one-stop shop for all your restaurants. There are also a range of delicious restaurants available in the local Park Royal Shopping Centre, which was Canada’s first mall. For shopping entertainment, visit Park Royal and The Village at Park Royal located in West Vancouver for the best in shopping, entertainment and dining. Visiting The Village at Park Royal is more than just shopping. Stop by after a full day on the mountain, or an afternoon at the beach for a delightful indulgence. We have great clothing stores like lululemon athletica, ivivva athletica, New Age Nike, Old Navy and Oska. Tasty treats including Cafe Artigiano, Rogers’ Chocolates, and Pinkberry, and excellent selections of places to eat like Cactus Club, Milestones, and the Village Taphouse.

COMMUNITY


The West Vancouver community is very active out of doors and enjoys their life to the fullest. They are a friendly group of locals that give the area a relaxed and positive feeling. Working professionals and retired persons will find it easy to fit in here.

A recreational community hub, this centre offer everything from pottery to group fitness classes at the gym to child-minding and more. A large and convenient centre that caters to all ages and interests.

Ambleside Par 3

A well-positioned golf course that is suitable for both beginner and expert golfers, this 18-hole course makes for a fun afternoon out.

West Vancouver Museum

Bringing a little culture and history to the area, the West Vancouver Museum aims to create an awareness of art, architecture and design through its collections.

EDUCATION


West Vancouver boasts a modern schooling environment for children. There are a number of primary, elementary and secondary schools to choose between ensuring that you can find the right fit for your child. Ecole Cedardale elementary school offers French immersion and Sentinel Secondary school offers Advanced Placements. There are several unique features offered by different schools so it’s best for parents to do their own research before picking a place for their child. Not all schools are equal and West Vancouver schools stand above the rest in both academic integrity and overall professionalism.
